The Game Wagon Junior Game Creator coding camps are being held throughout the half term holidays at various locations. We have two levels of workshops. Our Junior Game Creators workshop is for budding game creators that are 8 to 11 years old and want to stretch their knowledge of Scratch. Our more advanced workshop Level Up is for students between 11 and 16 that need to scratch an itch that Scratch cannot itch! We introduce them to an industry standard development tool that will allow them to publish their game creations to various digital devices.

What Is Junior Game Creators?
Junior Game Creators is a fun and educational workshop designed to nurture an interest in computer science through a child’s passion for games and video games. Kids love playing video games but we take that enthusiasm and teach them how to create their own.
There are two levels;
Junior Game Creators : Workshops are focused on ages 8-11 and uses the popular Scratch development environment used by many schools. We just have very cool and exciting projects to work on that maintains interest and encourages creativity.
LEVEL Up : Workshops are for students aged 11-16 who have “mastered Scratch” (in their eyes anyway) and are ready to move onto industry standard development tools that can be used to publish games on many platforms such as android, iOS, PC, Mac and even Consoles!
How does it work?
Our Game Experience Managers (GEMs) run the whole session and make sure everyone is involved. All you need is a budding game creator with an interest in video games and a packed lunch. You can book a single day or days throughout the summer (you can even split across locations as needed) and the structure ensures that the sessions do not repeat. Each day challenges their creativity, coding and problem solving skills in a fun way.
Who is the workshop aimed at?
If you know a child, aged 8-11 (Foundation) or 11-16 (Advanced), who’d love to have a go at making their own games, these workshops are ideal. Just do not tell them it is educational! They get to analyse, make and play games of their very own.
What do we cover?
We use practical games to introduce key concepts of computer science and show them how games are developed and why some work, becoming popular, and others do not. Our courses are accredited with The Children’s University for their soft skills as well as developing computational thinking. They are not just about code.
Our game creators are then challenged to create their own games (with guidance) and are given constructive feedback from the group to improve. By the end of the day they will have made 2-3 games of their very own to show you when they get home. Those that come for more than 3 days during the summer are likely to move onto making their very own games from scratch, they imagine it, plan it and make it (with our guidance and support).
